What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy, or PT for short, specialize in treating, examining, and caring for babies, toddlers, children, teenagers, and young adults who have difficulty moving and performing physical activities at their optimal level. The role of the pediatric physical therapist includes evaluation and treatment for delays in motor skills by developing the motor planning, strength, balance, coordination, and range of motion that children need to move through their environment easily and efficiently. They treat various conditions related, but not limited to prematurity, orthopedic, neurological, developmental, genetic and sports injuries/disorders. The use of specialized or adaptive medical equipment is also utilized by physical therapists to help improve posture, achieve optimal positioning, and provide opportunities for children to navigate their environment with increased independence. Their hands are equipped to support the most fragile to the most agile child.
